The Heavy Eight
A weighted eight ball you actually have to shake. Agitate the fluid, watch the die rise through the murk, and ask the same thing twice at your peril.
What it is
shake it, ask anything
Type a question, then shake — drag the ball, or turn on Attune motion and shake the phone itself. When the shaking stops the ball deals its answer, and the die carrying it sinks, tumbles and rises back through the murk until the face settles against the glass. Twenty faces carry the traditional answers, and the ball talks back if you give it something that is not a question.
How to play
Controls, then the numbers that matter
Attune motion asks the phone for its motion sensor, so a real shake works — and the ball buzzes when the die knocks the glass.
The twenty faces are the classic set: ten favourable, five undecided, five against. They come off a shuffled deck, so you see all twenty before any repeats, and never the same one twice running.
Give it a statement instead of a question and it refuses — "THAT WAS NOT A QUESTION", "STATEMENTS BORE ME". Ask the same thing twice and it notices.
About one first-time question in forty raises a gold die instead, carrying one of eight shards that are not among the twenty. If "EIGHT IS HALF OF INFINITY" ever surfaces, that was one, and the ledger counts the ones you have seen.
Keep this fortune turns the answer into a card you can save as an image — press and hold, or right-click it. The Ledger of Fates holds what it has told you; "Burn the ledger" wipes those readings, never its Sayings page or the record of fates you have settled.
The Ledger's Sayings page is a book of the 35 things the orb can say besides the shards (20 faces, 5 table calls, 6 refusals, 4 oddities). It shows the ones you have heard and gives clues to the rest, except the twenty faces, which simply come round off the deck.
Each day the orb listens for one word, the same for everyone, with a riddle for a clue at the top of the Ledger. Put the answer in a question and it notices; the question still gets its reading. There are sixty riddles, each comes round once every sixty days, and a missed day takes nothing away.
A yes or no over an hour old can be settled in the Ledger as came true or didn't, and the orb keeps a record of what you said. Tap a settled one to undo it.
